The objectives are the achievements that you want to achieve through work. In a monographic or thesis work, the goals of the research are usually set before beginning its writing. This allows to orient the subject of the thesis and also to measure the results obtained.

Types of objectives

• General objectives. They aim to solve the general problem determined in the problem statement. It is the final result that the thesis wants to achieve, that is, the reason why the research is carried out.
• Specific objectives. They refer to the objectives of each strategy. The specific objectives must be measurable, concrete and limited to a single aspect of the investigation.

How are the objectives written?

• Objectives are written starting with infinitives (define, distinguish, register, identify).
• They must be clear and concise.
• They must raise achievable possibilities.
• They focus on achievements and not on processes or activities.

Examples of general and specific objectives

1. Pass math

Overall objective

• Pass math throughout the year

Specific objectives

• Keep up-to-date with exercises indicated by teachers
• Practice with mock exams a week before the actual exams
• Ask the questions that are necessary to understand the new topics.

1. Cleaning

Overall objective

• Cleaning a house that has been uninhabited for two years

Specific objectives

• To clean the furniture
• Clean the floors
• Clean walls and windows
• Check the operation of pipes and electrical outlets and repair what is necessary.

1. Psychotic patients

Overall objective

• To determine the differential characteristics of the creative production of psychotic patients in an inpatient setting.

Particular objectives

• Identify the characteristic formal order of the selected population.
• Determine the specific influence of therapeutic devices.
• Compare creative productions with those of other psychotic patients outside the hospitalization context.

1. Customer satisfaction

Overall objective

• Determine the relationship between the use of satisfaction surveys and subsequent customer satisfaction in fast food outlets.

Specific objectives

• Confirm the relationship between the findings made and the changes made in response to the restaurants that started them.
• Compare the degrees of satisfaction before and after the changes made.
• Define the real relationship between surveys and customer satisfaction.
