The prefixtetra-, of Greek origin, means "four" or "square" and is a prefix widely used in geometry. For example: tetrahedron, tetrachampion.

Examples of words with the prefix tetra-
- Tetrabranchial: That it has a respiratory system that is made up of four gills.
- Four-time champion: That he has achieved four championships of something.
- Tetrachord/ tetrachord: Series of four sounds.
- Tetrahedron: Geometric figure that has four triangular faces.
- Tetragonal: Which has four angles.
- Tetragon: Geometric figure with four sides.
- Tetragram: Set of 4 straight and parallel lines on which musical notes are written.
- Tetralogy: Set of four works, whether literary or musical, that are related or that revolve around the same theme.
- Tetrapod: Group of terrestrial vertebrate animals that have two pairs of limbs (wings or legs).

Not all words that start with syllables tetra- correspond to this prefix. There are some exceptions:
- Tetracycline: Medicine used to fight bacteria present in pneumonia.
- Neon Tetra: Elongated, small and bright tropical freshwater fish.
