To know if words should be written with S, C or Z, certain spelling rules must be followed.
They are written with S:
- Superlative adjectives ending in -ísimo or -ísima. For example: highsimo, a lotsimo.
- Words ending in -sivo or -siva. For example: pasivo, offendsVAT.
- Words ending in -esco and -asco (exceptions: harmful and lascivious). For example: refresco, gosco.
- Inhabitants ending in -es, -esa, -ense. For example: barilochense, japaneses.

They are written with C:
- Infinitive verbs ending in -cer, -cir, -ceda, -cibir, -cidir, -cendir. For example: fortifycer, recibir, prescindir.
- Words in the -ct lexical family and nouns ending in -ction. For example: perfect, perfectcion.
- Infinitive verbs ending in -ducer. For example: translatecgo, introducecgo.
- Ls diminutives ending in -cito and -cillo (exceptions: little step, little table, hallway). For example: panecillo, despaircito.
- Words ending in -cia, -cie, -cio. For example: precio, necia, appcie.
- Plural nouns or adjectives of words ending in Z. For example: pecis, gocis, newcit is.
