A apocope It is the deletion of one or more phonemes of a word (in general, the last phoneme) and they are the result of the modifications of the language by the use of its speakers. The term comes from the Greek apokopé which means "cut".
They can be apocopated:
- Adjectives For example: good (good)
- Nouns For example: motorcycle (motorcycle)
- Adverbs. For example: so (so much)
If the word loses part of its phoneme or letters at the beginning it is called aphaeresis.
If the word loses some phoneme or letter in the middle it is called syncopation.
