Content

The job sheet It is a tool that serves, as its name implies, to perform a task, activity or job. It is used to organize certain information. In this way, the worksheet saves the reader time since it is not necessary for him to go to the original source each time he requires it because the most relevant data is found in it.

Originally the worksheets were made of cardboard in a size of approximately 12.5 cm x 19 cm. Currently the files are mostly in digital format. However, the use of paper worksheets is not ruled out.

  • See also: Summary tab.

Format

Regarding the format of the worksheet, it must contain the following information:

  • Author details
  • The title of the book or topic to be addressed
  • Page number, section, chapter, etc (to be able to locate the reader on the original source in case of needing to go to it)
  • Topic
  • Summary

Structure

Although a worksheet may or may not be strict in terms of its internal structure, each content is generally located in a specific place.

  • Author and page: They are placed above the card on the left side. These are considered to be the most relevant data since they help to spatially locate the reader so that they can go to the original source if necessary.
  • Title of the book: It is located in the upper right. You can also place a subtitle.
  • Topic and Summary: The topic to be developed is placed in the center of the card. This topic may or may not be written verbatim as it appears in the original story or book. If the text is found literally, it must be enclosed in quotation marks. In the case that it is only a summary, it should not have quotation marks.

Classification

As mentioned above, the worksheets can be made in a similar way but with variations. Thus, different types of tokens can be distinguished:

  • Textual files. They are cards that, using the corresponding quotation marks to quote the author of the text, literally transcribe a paragraph that is of importance.
  • Paraphrase sheet. It is a type of file widely used in academic or study settings since the person writing the file uses their own vocabulary to refer to an idea that generally belongs to someone else.
  • Summary tab. As its name implies, the most relevant events are summarized with words that are proper to the creator of the file and not the author of the original text.
  • Summary sheet. In this type of cards a synthesis is made with the main ideas as simplified as possible.
  • Mixed tab. 2 or more tiles can be combined. For example, the textual record is combined with a summary record. Thus the reader has literal information about the text and, on the other hand, has the opinion of the creator of the card. It is used in cases where the opinion of the maker of the file is important.
