The prefix Photo-, of Greek origin, is widely used in biology and means "light", ’radiation" or "Photography". For example: Photocopy, Photosensitive, Photosynthesis.
This prefix is related to the prefixes helium- which means "sun" and litho- which means "stone" or "rock".

Examples of words with the prefix photo-
- Photobiology: Area of biology that is responsible for the study of the interaction between living beings and visible light or ultraviolet radiation.
- Photocolorimeter: Tool to identify the different color and hues.
- Photocomposition: Composition of different texts that is made on a photographic paper or on a film.
- Photoconductive: Which has an electrical conductivity in relation to the intensity of light or light radiation.
- Photocopy: Copying or duplicating an image using an electric machine.
- Photoelectricity: Electricity that is produced as a result of electrons that are given off by the action of light.
- Photoelectric: Which produces electricity or electric current thanks to light radiation.
- Photophobia: Intolerance to light due to the annoyance it produces, generating difficulty occupying.
- Photogenic: That favors the chemical action that light produces. It is also said of a favored person after taking a photograph.
- Photoengraving: Photographic engraving technique used on metal plates to later print.
- Photography: Technique by which images are obtained by the chemical action exerted by light on another object such as paper.
- Frame: Unit that can be isolated from the image that is projected cinematically.
- Photoinitiator: Compounds sensitive to the radiant energy of certain molecules. These compounds break down upon receiving radiant energy.
- Photolith: Copy obtained from photolithography.
- Photolithography: Technique by which drawings on stone can be reproduced thanks to the action of light.
- Photoperiod: Portion of the day in which a living being is exposed to sunlight.
- Photoluminescence: Generation of light as a consequence of previously acquired radiation assimilation.
- Photomechanical: Technique used to obtain negatives of drawings or texts.

- Photosensitive: Sensitive to the action or effects of light.
- Photosphere: One of the layers of the envelope of the sun, luminous and gaseous quality.
- Photosynthesis: Process of chemical characteristics that occurs in every plant with chlorophyll. This process converts the inorganic substrate of the plant into organic matter through the action of sunlight.
- Phototoxicity: Consequence produced by excessive exposure to sunlight.
- Photorespiration: Incorporation of oxygen by plants when they convert, thanks to the action of sunlight, carbon dioxide into oxygen.
- Linear photosensors: Neurons that are located in the peripheral retina and are responsible for peripheral vision and twilight vision.
- Photosintate: Chemical product that results from the photosynthesis process.
- Photoheterotroph: Organisms that depend on light for energy.
- Photogrammetry: Metering performed using stereoscopic photographs.
- Photobleaching: Change that occurs in the chemical group that is responsible for the color of a molecule.
- Photostability: Capacity of a product to be exposed to the sun without presenting modifications or alterations.
