The hard words are those that present difficulties when writing or reading them. Their complexity may be due to their being longer than usual, their infrequent use, or the fact that they have a large number of consonants. For example: sternocleidomastoid, deoxyribonucleic.

To facilitate the pronunciation of these words, the ideal is to separate them into syllables. As the person becomes familiar with the term and uses it more frequently, its pronunciation becomes easier.

Examples of difficult words

  1. Transubstantiation. Theological doctrine of the Catholics and Orthodox that establishes that the wine and the bread of the Eucharist become the blood and body of Jesus after the consecration of the priest.
  2. Harpsichord. Musical instrument widely used in the Baroque period (late 16th century and early 18th century). It has plucked strings and keyboard.

  4. Ovoviviparous. Animals whose embryos develop into eggs that, at the same time, are inside the mother's body (in the so-called oviduct) and feed on its nutrients. Iguanas, snakes and sharks are some of the animals that reproduce in this way.
  5. Arteriosclerosis. Accumulation of cholesterol, fats or other substances on the walls of the arteries, which restricts the circulation of blood to the tissues and organs.
  6. Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. Lung disease that occurs as a result of silica poisoning or breathing volcanic ash.
  7. Kaleidoscope. A tube-shaped optical instrument that contains three mirrors that make up a triangular prism. On the inside of this toy is the reflective part of the mirror, and at one end there are two translucent sheets that contain elements of different sizes and colors. As the tube is rotated, from the end opposite those sheets, through a peephole, you can see how the objects move and multiply symmetrically in the mirrors, causing innumerable geometric figures.
  8. Sternocleidomastoid. It is a robust muscle, also known by its abbreviation ECM, which is located on the sides of the neck, below the platysma muscle. The ECM is within a sheath and extends from the mastoid process and superior nuchal line of the occipital bone to the sternal manubrium and the medial third of the clavicle.
  9. Deoxyribonucleic. Nucleic acid, also known by its abbreviation, DNA, which contains the genetic instructions that are used in the development and function of living organisms and of certain viruses. DNA is also responsible for hereditary transmission.
  10. Otolaryngologist. Medical specialist in charge of the study of diseases of the ear and respiratory tract. It also takes care of the thyroid glands.
  11. Parangaricutirimícuaro. Name of a popular tongue twister in certain areas of Colombia and Mexico.
  12. Deliquescent. Body that absorbs moisture from the air and dissolves in it.
  13. Dimethylnitrosamine. Semi-volatile organic compound, the result of numerous industrial processes and it is found in certain foods, generally cured, smoked or cooked.
  14. Parallelepiped. Prism containing 6 parallelogram faces, 12 edges, and 8 vertices.
  15. Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia. Irrational fear of the number 666 (the mark of the beast) and everything that is related to it, directly or indirectly.
  16. Dihydroxyphenylalanine. Practically initial substrate of the metabolic pathway of the catecholamines norepinephrine, epinephrine and dopamine.
