Theverbs in present are those verbs that refer to actions that are being carried out at the current moment. For example: Juan plays soccer / We enjoy the scenery.
Verbs describe actions, which can be carried out within the framework of three tenses:
- Past (what has already happened). For example: He succeeded, they learned, he had come, I have known.
- Present (what is happening now). For example: I speak, we run, you know.
- Future (what will happen). For example: I will win, you say.
There is present tense in the mode indicative, at subjunctive and in the imperative.
Verbs in the present tense do not require that the situation be limited to the same instant, but it can have some connection with the past and with the future, especially when they are lasting actions.
For example:My son is playing in the yard.With this phrase, the mother, using the present continuous, gives us to understand that the son was playing before she begins to speak, and that he will continue to do so for a while.

When is the present used?
- Usual actions. For example: Every summer I go on vacation to the beach. (Corresponds to the present, despite the fact that the action stops in March and resumes in December)
- States of being or uncertain conjectures. For example: I want you to be my assistant. / We are sure of the decision.
- Historical or timeless present. It narrates an action from the past with verbs from the present, and is used in journalistic media or in history books, in order to make the narration more alive and current. For example: As soon as I get home, I call the police to report the tragedy.
