The gerunds They are verbs that are characterized by indicating that the action is being carried out. Finish in –Ando or in –In. For example: singing, knowing.
Sometimes they can function as adverbs as they provide information about the way the action is carried out. For example:I came running. /With the sun rising we went for a walk.
Along with the participle and the infinitive. they constitute non-personal forms of the verb, which means that they do not conjugate and, therefore, do not present person, number, mood, time or gender.

Gerund modalities
There are two ways to build gerunds:
- In verbs that end in -ar in the infinitive. The gerund is constructed with the ending or ending -ando. For example: walk / walk; jump jumping; loving / loving.
- In verbs that end in the infinitive in –er or –ir. The gerund is constructed with the ending or ending -going. For example: to run running; eat / eat; Lie lying; say / saying.
But there is also a irregular construction what happens in those verbs that, when the infinitive have the structures i (unstressed) + vowel, e (unstressed) + a, e + e, a "y" is added. For example: read reading; hear / hear; go / going; falling / falling.
