The oxides aremixtures between chemical elements and oxygen, whether they are metallic or non-metallic. It is common for the layer that forms on different metals to be recognized as oxide precisely from the oxidation, but in reality the name belongs to a more general category which is that of combinations between any element and oxygen.
When it comes to combinations between metals and oxygens they will be called basic oxides, while when it is a combination between a non-metal and oxygen will be a acid oxide.
Virtually all elements can combine with oxygen generating an oxide, so many classifications are opened in this regard. Binary oxides will be those that are composed only of oxygen and another element, while the mixed oxides will be those that are formed from the intervention of more than two elements.

Common and frequent oxides in everyday life
The carbon oxide (known as dioxide, due to the presence of two elements of oxygen) has many commercial, industrial and medical uses: it removes oxygen for the fire, it works as a compost for the soil, and as a ventilation agent in surgeries.
The nitrogen oxides It is a colorless gas that is present in some mammals, which some years later was observed to have other functions (such as treating pain or preserving food) but which is said to have very harmful effects on the environment, so many warn on the risks in its extended use.
Oxides have different kinds of nomenclatures, among which the traditional one that differentiates the designation of each oxide according to the oxidation number stands out.
